no one ever sits in the sitting room
they only go in there to dust and run the vacuum
once a year a tree goes up and the lights go on
but no one really goes in there
no one fires up that old fireplace
but it sure does look inviting, and it fills up the space
just above hangs a painting of
two kids in love

the silver is sterling, the china is bone
locked away in the hutch by the rotary phone
