Evergreen Tree

Where the sun beats down there's an ocean breeze
Where the lilies and the lands kiss the blue-green sea
Past the one old mill where old Lazarus be
That's where you'll find the old evergreen tree

Where it stands by the clouds, oh so high and mighty
Father says if it were human it would be our king
But it isn't, so quit your worrying and sing
As we dance around the fire by the evergreen tree

Well therе came a day a woodpecker saw
He said "This tree be too tall for I can scarce see!"
Began peck-a-pecking wood with his tiny beak
But he only put a dent in the evergreen tree

So that bird got his crew as his little army
All his friends asked "What's wrong with this big old thing?"
He said to them "Oh it's not to my liking"
So all they went destroying the evergreen tree

With a couple years work their project was complete
They all backed away as they watched it lean
And it fell down the hill, crashed into the sea
All those birds cheered "Goodbye, oh evergreen tree!"

That woodpecker soon realized what's one thing
Asked around, "Oh have ye seen my family?"
All the birds questioned what this poor fellow could mean
They said "You mean the ones that lived in the evergreen tree?"

Let this be a lesson to all of ye
Don't waste all your precious time worrying
About things that are small in the big grand scheme
Or you'll be like the bird 'n the evergreen tree
