To the Moon on Summer Eves

The eve'ning was young
Purifying the soul
The fading red of the sun
amalgamated with a moon to extol

The soil radiated yet
the heat of the day
Twillight's hybrid hour was
- by the moon - driven away

The wind swept through
summer fields
Ears waved so light
The forest sung secretly
Starry was the night

I welcomed darkness gracefully
It's soothing mantle of a deep dark blue
And from the sky shone so vainly
the stars golden hue

Thus came deliverance
of the radiant moon

My soul outspread ardently
its wings so wide
Flew o'er the lands silently
towards home - the night
