Structures of Constriction

The abolished empires once grew
Reaching for the heavens above
Aiming for the attainment of gods
Yet insecure and undone
In fire consumed the rotting decay
By those who served to protect
Fallen to ashes and torn into shreds
Absorbed by regret

We have built the structures designed to withhold
Even strongest waves of the oceans of grief
To separate ourselves from the infinite storms
And endure solitude with bitter relief

We failed to predict the only thing unknown
That whispers within will grow into screams
We fractured foundations we've laid for our tombs
And embraced the sun as we gave up serenity

Crawling out of the chasms of our souls
Of wretched fate and hideous displays
Surpassing the visions of yore
Of yearn and inveigh
Like a foul and heinous disease
Ingesting with alluring disdain
Reviving abandoned concerns
And smothered embers
