Friendly Beast

Glora, as the Dauphine of France
Her sister as a Marie Antoinette
Who tied some flower in her hair
She said that about a year ago
When daddy went away to Mexico
It changed the color of her eyes
I didn't know if it was a lie
But I believed her then
We drove down by the sea
'Cos Glora liked to swim, but the water was cold
She helped me with my ice cream cone
Then leaned over to me and said:
"There's a monster living under my bed
Though it's fine, he's a friendly beast
He keeps me company
And lulls me to sleep"
"Step into the night, come over and see
What the fairy and me have made out of your teeth
A tiny ark to hold all your joys
Your favorite toys. Long out of harm's reach
The world is cruel, and needs to reform
So now a great storm lay the grounds for a restart
All aboard! Hear the ocean roar!
Come the great downpour! And drown every shoreline!"
Next night, around 4 or 5
I heard Glora cry in the other room
Went in and sat down by the bed
Petals still on her fuzzy head
Held her hand as if to say "I understand"
She smiled, and we stayed there 'till the sun rose
