Dreads

I met her in a bar, no, I didn't really meet her
Smoky and dim, I couldn't really see her
Tall and thin, lost and tangled
Standing there in dreads, all edges and angles

She said, hello, I couldn't really hear her
I turned up her voice, tryin to get near her
She said hello, all it took was just one second
I don't know, I don't know what I reckoned

Standing at the bar, looks into my eyes
But I pull away, in widened surprise
As I turn away, I feel like I could cry
But I can't turn back, and I don't know why

I don't understand, such strange circumstances
Lotsa second thoughts, but no second chances
Standing alone, left with just my thoughts
Let it go, don't get caught

I see her gaze, a look so fleeting
When I close my eyes, I can feel her breathing
She lingers on, I outline her shadow
Behind my eyes, but I cannot follow
