I was born a winter's night
An only child
Branded unwanted
I was forlorn
A soiled seed of life

The wise would have said
That I was broken from the start
To see how life spat in my face
I felt the cruelty of it all

Worse it became
With every passing year
As the other children shunned me
With no one to call a friend
My heart grew colder

From childhood then, through much travail
I've battled with the ills of life
'til like a rude and rugged rock
My heart grew callous in the strife
When other children passed the hours
In mirth and play and childish glee
I was dealt a losing hand of cards
Yet I was too blind to see

I wandered there a shadow
A spectre self-destroyed
Snuffed out
Buried alive
Inside my mind

Dealt an ill-fated hand in the cursed deck of life
Strife and misfortune there entwined
Beaten and broken, marred over time
An existence doomed from the start
