I was born in East Virginia
North Carolina, I did go
There I met a fair young maiden
Her name and age I do not know

On her feet she wore these slippers
And in her hair she wore a bow
How I loved that brown eyed darling
No one in this world could know

Her hair it was a light brown color
Lips they were ruby red
And on her breast she wore white lilies
Where I long to lay my head
