The Moth

Here once was a window
but now it's gone
and the path it looked out on
is overgrown

I painted a picture to take its place
but it never changes in the wind and the rain
A faded grey photo with its edges curled
only meant something real in another world

After the rain a displaced spider
crawls up to your window

I went out to the forest
to be among the birds
but the trees remained silent
and unconcerned

Back in the bedroom with the walls closing in
is like trying to sleep at night inside a coffin
Looking up at the window into the night
where a moth's mottled wings cover the sky
