That you actually decided to keep in the recording
Or you went back to something that you knew is wrong

And, I, you know, we recorded Last Leaf outside
Dave and the band were sitting in the control room
There were two mics running out into the yard
And I was just standing in the yard with an acoustic guitar

So, I'm out there and you can hear
Wait, wait, why, why would you do that?
Because it's just like this really simple acoustic song
And if we have done it studio perfect
It was going to be really cheesy
Yeah, I remember actually Dave saying
"We're not recording this chord through real ways
You're going outside"
Well, first he sent us to the college where he works
With a hand-held recorder and said
"Just go find some interesting space
And record it yourself"
And we tried, and we didn't get anything too good
Then I went to, on a break off
I actually went to "death valley"
Found a place called "Desolation Canyon"
Took like a three hour hike up "Desolation Canyon"
With a hand-held recorder and a guitar
Recorded it on the top of the mountain like four times
And then came back, still didn't like what I got
Even though I like the story, I mean
"Desolation Canyon" would've been so great
And what were this recordings like?
Uh, they're really muffly, and the wind was really annoying
And I was, it was getting dark, and I didn't sound sad
I sounded scared, 'cause I basically was
I wanted so badly for that to be what we used
Because it just seem like the right place to do it, but
In the end we just took microphones outside
And you can hear the frogs and the crickets and stuff
And, you know, I just, I did a few takes of it
I was sorta warming up and still getting into it
And I did one and I remember everyone was like
"Okay, that's the one"
I was like, I, can I just fix the part where I "eeeh"
And Dave was like the one, like
"You're not even allowed near the file of this
'Cause if you try to fix that error, this record will suck"
