First Night In Berlin

New to the city and so much to see.
You came to greet me,
no better place to be.
Follow me, there's much to see
and friends to meet;
here's to your first day
on this Berlin street.

Five months have gone now,
a war is declared;
friends now ignore me,
their hands are stained red.
They move in crowds
and sing aloud,
ready for war...
"Deutschland Deutschland,
Will conquer all".

I walk through the city,
the picture looks bleak.
Can't draw attention;
in their language i'll speak.
"Are you, English?"
I just can't admit;
where will I go to?
