The Thaw

Autumn came too fast upon us
Blanketing the streets in cold
Oh, this world of wonder
Watch it form a ring of frost
Around it's neck

Do you feel a chill in the air
Can you see a thing through the snowfall
Watching my breath form an oath
To never feel this cold again

All night I see you trapped under the ice
Holding your breath
Until the thaw arrives
But I'm inclined
To just walk away

Reaching out for love's reminder
Numbness dulls that touch of yours
Shoulder cold as winter
Warning we should quit
Before we catch our death
Out from the lungs does it spread
Black with the frostbite to limbs end
Immune to the touch of the sun
And through it all we fall again

Desperately cutting away at the ice
Hoping to get to the warmth inside
Before we lie cold
