God & The Devil

It was a pitch black night
And the wind blew hot
When the Devil made a deal with God
He said "I'll give you two of these souls I've got
For one of your lightning rods".
Well, God thought long, and God thought hard,
And just when he was about to say "No"
The Devil jumped up and he stole that rod,
And hell broke loose like so.

Well, there weren't no wonder
'Cause there weren't no thunder
As the lightning came from up and under.
And it hit a branch that set fire to a tree,
And under that tree was little old me.

Well, the very next thing, what do you know?
And who do you think I see?
But the Devil himself, with a twinkle in his eye,
Fixing his stare on me.
He said "Child I'm sure you know about this war that I am waging.
And if you wanna come fight for me I promise your soul'll be safe when...
When I'm the king."

Well I looked that Devil right square and the eye,
And said "do I look stupid to you?
That shit's not mine, I'm not getting involved.
That's between you and that other dude."

"And if you're still pissed off, well here's and idea,
I suggest that you should give it some thought.
Instead of damning everybody else to hell,
Maybe you could go for a walk
And chill the fuck out, man..."

"Look, I'll call God and get him over here,
You know he'll listen to me.
And the two of you can sit down over a beer,
And maybe you could talk some peace."

I said "seriously, when did you two last spoke?
And have you ever heard of sitting down,
And talking it out like damn civilized folk?"

Well, soon enough God wrapped up,
And at first he was a little uptight.
But after they picked a bone or two
They started getting on alright.
Satan said "Lord, I've held a grudge",
And the Lord said "I've held one too.
But I've been preaching forgiveness and love,
And I ought to extend it to you."
So they kissed and made up,
And they kissed and made up.
