We were crawling through the late night bars in the early afternoon
The bright light makes them seedier, there's no hiding in the gloom
We talked about the ones we'd lost and the things we never found
Back before the plans we made were buried in the ground

We were trying our best to drink it all back down
Not much left to put the fire out
We were drinking like we were dying then
Thinking that we'd never see another day begin

Then we hit the final bar and the TV blared the news
We saw the panic building but there was nothing we could do
So we stumbled into the street and we stared up at the sky
Tomorrow would be a darker day, it was time to choose a side

We made it to Northside and we laid it all out on the floor
And we kept taking it until we couldn't see anymore
When your brother got home, he collapsed on the front lawn
