King of Scars

Pharaoh silent watching
His pyramid rise
Hopes to be remembered
Reminded that he will die
Seeing others toiling
Thinks he stands alone
But he's just another
Pushing his own stones

Scars on the horizon
Crowds compete for fame
Each with its own splendor
Though gathered all feel the same
What king can find comfort
Dreaming in his grave
If he's but a water drop
Just another in the wave

Monuments are fleeting
Despite how far cast
Shadows of oblivion
Are the ones that truly last
When all works are finished
Care not where they're placed
For there's but a second
Before they are all erased
