On This Night

Softly spread on blades of grass
And carried by the wind
Are the remains of my blood now ash
Their fate sealed by my sin

I walk among my memories
And think of what went wrong
My kin were silently sleeping
The night was growing long

I left my post, I often did
It never once went wrong
But on this night, in silent flight
The darkest web did spin

My mind goes hazy
When I think of what transpired then
But I remember fiery bright
A well came forth and when

For I have witnessed falling
Where no one could give relief
I've seen the poor ones crawling
Plummeting into the deep

I gazed into
Its murky depths
As charcoal clouds did shift
I heard a rumbling thunderous roar
And mountains round did rift

It came upon a cloudless night
But clouds soon formed from smoke
And soon, as I gazed left and right
Around me demons woke
