Dry Heave

I took another kick at the mud
But my foot whiffed must have been the cool mist lifting up
Long dark cloud, hang over the river
Hand over whatever was there
I shivered as the hand around my body put me into the air
Time slowed
Time stopped
I dry heaved
Heave-ho
You would have had to be there when the water separated from the land to try me
Get behind me
Swing low
I could have been struck by a limb on a branch on a truck on the bridge and got chucked off the edge and died
And even as the water separated from my blood and pushed out of my skin
I couldn’t decide
Time slowed
Time stopped
I dripped dry
And even as the last rock sunk into the fresh born ocean below me
I wasn’t surprised
