Just Like Today

Hang the lines in the tree, about there now
We'll stretch our tarp from the corner in the air now
Dig me a hole by the pasture, never mind
Build us a fire in a pail, give us light now

Irish walked all the way from Lacrosse
Missed his train but he picked up a little dog
When he finally sat down by the banks of Old Man
Snow was falling and we could see the cold
Coming in the air, man

With a blanket around his face like a shawl
He made it down the rails with his dog
Touched the kids for some cash
Fished his dinner from the trash, man
In the trash

When he made camp about 3 AM
Stared the fire down with some friends
Shared around the little bit they had
Slept off the haze throughout the day
With his head on his duffle bag, man

And the world went by on a different plane
We all lived in the very same place
When he woke up, it was the same day
He built up his fire and set down to wait
Just like today
