When I was just a little kid
Didn't have too many friends
Spent my time just reading
Even at weekends
Then I grew up and went to school
Didn't learn too many things
All the time I was waiting
For the bell to ring
Then one day I had a big surprise
I was bought my first guitar
Just an old acoustic
Nylon strung guitar
Every night I used to stay at home playing
Practicing and learning chords
All my friends were outside
Driving 'round in Fords
Getting nowhere
Went to a gig and I heard some blues
Hit me like a ton of lead
That was the stuff for me
Went straight up to my head
Got some guys together and formed a band
Played in all the clubs in town
Bending strings all night
Till the morning came around
Lord, have mercy
Fashions come and fashions go
But the blues will never die
Nothing else will take its place
No matter how they try
