Pied Riche Narration

The great Pottawattamie chief, Pied Riche,
Upon seeing the saints cross his people's land,
Thought it very strange that the
Mormons could not live with the white people.
He reminded the saints that the
Pattawattamie's were also a dispossessed people.
Driven from their homeland in Michigan years before, as he said,
We must help one another, and the Great Spirit will help us both.
Because one suffers and does not
Deserve it is no reason he shall suffer always.
We may live to see it right yet.
If we do not, our children will."
