Just Anyone

By the crowded highway stands
The brightly painted sign
Where each way points the same way leading
Blind man to decide
In the doorway
Looking for
The sun that failed to shine
A tramp will either laugh
Or breathe a sigh

The silver-plated eagle glares out
From the mansion wall
Upon the passing stillborn soldier
Who can only fall
When all has gone
By the wayside
Scourged by what he's done
Beyond Nirvana, each is all and one.

Dazed and wondering...
Find someone
Is there anybody out there?
Just anyone?

Misplaced grooms in bedsit rooms
Hide from the warning gun
The white dove flies toward the mountain Under a waning sun
The plaster cracks and disappears
And when all's said and done
You're there to die alone
Or carry on

In the senseless crowd you pass
Someone in whom you hide
If only for a moment till you
Reach the other side
You raise your arms
To make a sign
To show the hour has come
But you're alone and everyone
Has gone
