Sliver (The Sheltered Garden)

So many years now
So far and further
The dragons still sleeping in their golden winter caves
Alone in a garden
The coming of stormclouds
They carried a foul gift
A rusty splinter for my eye

And in the sheltered garden
That's where I gained and left a part of me there
The pain became a sign
Forever a curse
Forever a weight
The far side of m

A wound kept open
Did I want it to mend?
You could not remove me
From the garden where you slept
Legend became myth
The sliver a pillar
Afraid of the darkness and of the windswept light of life

And in the sheltered garden
That's where I gained and left a part of me there

And the wind carries salt over miles from a distant sea
Early spring drips its light through the leaves
Of the trees, at the back, far away in a sheltered yard
Milky sun, and forever the clouds
No one is home anymore

And I thought that I heard voices deep down inside of me
