Abject Spirit

A colorless landscape
Spawned in my mind
Unknowingly roaming
A desert to find what is yet undefined

Dry earth under foot
Above me no sky
Seasons in perpetual twilight
Obscuring my path and the passage of time

After endless searching
The mist began clearing
The veil of blindness lifting
I came upon a sight most confounding

A great black pupil
Shone in the sky
But instead of blinding
Its glow was inviting if not absorbing

I felt it thirst for my gaze
And it seemed to stare back
Deep within me, through me
It would've swallowed me whole
Had I not been able to avert my gaze

Then suddenly I saw its surface rupture

The sun burst open
Down poured a great fall
Of fire and brimstone
Thus wept the black star
The ground did open
Receiving the fall
With tremors it gave way
And swallowed it all
Drained of substance
Collapsing the star
Became like nothing
Had been there at all

Abject spirit
Hollow husk
I wanted for nothing
But something to want
