Happy in Hindsight

I'm looking at a picture of myself
Of a few years ago
And with what I know now
All I see's a guy in the sun
With his thumbs up but his smile betrays he's not (really) having fun

He's consumed by his concerns and doubts
While he ain't got all that much he has to worry about
If only I could tell him
It will be okay
He doesn't have to be afraid

I'm only ever happy in hindsight

I'm listening to a record that I made
Like a few years back
And with what I know now
All I hear's a guy in his prime
Who's completely unaware he's living through good times

He's digging up all his sorrow and pain
While his worries are for nothing and his fears are in vain
If only I could go back and do it again
So I would feel it then
