How Bella Donna Came to Be

And I hate to do this is shotgun fashion but
It was nice
I was really glad to have been able to hear the album
First last night so
I wanted you to hear it
I didn't wanna
It's hard to talk about stuff that nobody's heard
I think Bella Donna the
I mean I when I heard that song I turned to you and said
It's got a classic sound
It seems great as the title track
Perfect
Can you say anything about that
I'm trying to form in my mind
What it is that I'm going to say about Bella Donna
Because
I wrote Bella Donna
Knowing that I wanted to name the album Bella Donna
Before I wrote the song
I knew
I saw this all in my
Little you know way I see things before they happen
And I just
I wanted to call it Bella Donna
I went to Chile
Right after we finished Tusk
And I was very very tired
Thirteen months
Of recording everyday almost
I was very tired and I was pretty kinda depressed actually
And I spent six weeks in Chile
They use that word Bella Donna
You know
I mean it's
They use it
It's but they don't they say Bella Donna
And they it's it's it's a very nice word
I mean it's real pretty it just kinda flows off your tongue
Beautifully you know
But it also
For me when I went down there I really needed to come into the light
And 'cause I felt like I'd been in some darkness
And so
I just I spent that six weeks
Thinking about what it was that my life was
And where it was I was going
And how I wanted to deal with the rest of it
And Bella Donna says come in out of the darkness
And that's basically what the whole song means
It was me making a decision whether I wanted to be
I was pretty unhappy
And whether I wanted to continue in that unhappy vein
Or whether I wanted to to be lifted up out of it
And in Bella Donna it says
"And your face becomes thin and you never thought it would"
That's basically what its saying it was it was
It was me asking myself to come in out of the darkness
And in so asking myself
Asking everybody else to come in out of the darkness to
It says
"You are in love with and I'm ready to sail it's just a feeling"
I was ready to go
I knew then I was ready to do this
That was before the year tour
So it was six weeks in between 13 months of recording Tusk
And a solid year of touring
And I wrote Bella Donna on the road somewhere
I mean I know exactly where I wrote it but it's in my files
And I knew that that's what I wanted the album to say
I wanted it to say Bella Donna on the front
And I wanted to turn it over
And I wanted it to say come in out of the darkness
It's a it's a classic title
I'm glad it's the title track
