Sirens

The sirens cut through the city
As the phones all start ringing out
The air tastes so sweet and sticky
Leaves a bad taste there in your mouth

How long before she had enough?
Most people would have given up
There's only so much pain that she could take
Face down upon the kitchen floor
The kids screaming through the bedroom walls
Well he beat her until all she could was break

She started swinging for the fence
God damn it was only self defence
So she hit him hard and then she hit again

They all said that he was one of the boys
But the neighbourhood all heard the noise
Turned their TVs up to drown out all the sound
Not one of them was checking in
Shootin' daggers at her torn up skin
Then they passed her by while staring at the ground

Her face was worn down by the tears
Of being beaten down for years
So she hit him hard and then she hit again
