Yesterday's Children

A man on the tv is reasoning why
here in this room we're saying goodbye
The tears in your eyes are no longer concealed
We're closer now than we've ever been
Deserted streets greet our eyes
as the dusk slowly darkens the summer skies
Black-faced windows return our stare
as we turn to each other to forget despair

Mama put the children to bed
Time now to think ahead to tomorrow

The man on the tv is talking again
but the record is stuck, what he says is the same
Debating a crisis but all is in vain
the picture starts fading, the crisis remains
Yesterdays children have said goodbye
as tomorrow's heroes are sent to die
The dogs of war reach further afield
as the reaper harvests a total yield

Mama put the children to bed
