Portions of the 11pm news off NBC affiliate WNYT (channel 13) in Albany, NY. Includes weather and most of sports. This aired the week before the Seinfeld finale which I have the news from, and another channel has the commercials. I do have Seinfeld finale commercials from WCAU in Philadelphia, however.
Ed Dague and Chris Kapostasy anchor the news, Bob Kovachick has First Warning Weather, and Rodger Wyland has sports. Bob's forecast includes a fact on May 7th being the average final day for frost in Albany (May 27th was the latest recorded date at least back then), and temperatures sinking into the 60s with rain. Tornado watches related to the rain hitting Albany were going on in the South. According to my commercial break set from May 10th (Mother's Day), the rain continued and cancelled Tulip Fest activities in Washington Park.
Rodger's sports include Patrick Ewing coming back to the New York Knicks for Game 2. In the 3rd quarter, Ewing pulls the Knicks within 2 behind the Pacers, and he ended up with 10 points, but it wasn't enough for the Knicks who lost 77-85. Meanwhile the Boston Red Sox had a pitching blunder and lost to the Kansas City Royals 3-5, and the Mets go 3-in-a-row over Mark McGwire and the Cardinals. In the NHL, playoffs also resume with Ottawa and Washington, with Washington victorious 4-2 and an RPI standout getting his 36th career goal in the playoffs.
Rodger Wyland celebrates 40 years at WNYT this week! The Pennsylvania native was hired originally as the weekend sports anchor, with racing at Saratoga being his first story. From there he started the Sunday "Big Board Sports" show, and in 1993 he became the 11pm sports anchor while Bob McNamara did the 6pm. Rodger Wyland now has the longest tenure among the WNYT staff as the other anchors have since retired.
The news theme is NBC Stations by Edd Kalehoff Productions, and Ed Hopkins voices Bob K and Rodger's talent shots. The graphics, which debuted in October of 1997, were done by ViewPoint Studios.
