In 2016, Castilleja School submitted an application to modernize our campus, to educate more women, and to improve conditions in our neighborhood.
Six years later, we have a plan that offers more opportunity and reduces traffic.
Over the last 115 years, Castilleja and Palo Alto have grown up together. Both are nationally recognized as leaders and innovators. Palo Alto has moved into the 21st century, but Castilleja’s learning spaces have not.
Did you know, Castilleja’s updated campus will:
-Be sustainable
-Add over 100 new trees
-Move parking below ground
-Open opportunities for more young women by gradually increasing our enrollment
And we can do all this without increasing traffic.
Through ride sharing and public transportation, Castilleja has already reduced car trips by more than 30 percent over the past decade.
Years of independent analysis prove that we can add students without adding car trips. We’ve answered every question, and we’ve made updates and compromises along the way. What’s really at stake is educating more girls to become the next generation of women leaders. And our world needs more of them now than ever before.
We know we can do this while making our neighborhood more beautiful and more sustainable in the process.
The City Council is set to vote on May 23. If you’re a Palo Alto resident, please tell them — today — that you support Castilleja’s mission, and our plan to modernize for the future of women’s education.
