Fourteen songs from an alternate 1981–1988: austere, romantic, nocturnal, intelligent, and quietly unnerving. 80s GOTH MUSIC lives in the more atmospheric reaches of gothic rock and post-punk—chorused guitars, melodic bass, cold synthesizers, spacious drums, spectral textures, and singers who sound composed until, occasionally, they don’t.

There are no novelty cobwebs here. The darkness is stranger and more human: distance, sleep, failed arguments, abandoned landscapes, private rituals, touch, memory, desire, and the peculiar ways people continue haunting one another while still alive.

From the suspended landscape of “What the Fallow Keeps” through “The Mercy of Distance,” “Between the Bells,” “Palinode,” and the closing “White Moths at Noon,” the album gradually moves away from conventional gothic rock and toward something more luminous, dreamlike, and difficult to place.

All lyrics are written by humans.
