২০২৩ ক্রিকেট বিশ্বকাপ ভারতে অনুষ্ঠিত হবে। চতুর্থবারের মতো ভারত ত্রয়োদশ আসরটির স্বাগতিক হবার সৌভাগ্য লাভ করবে। এছাড়াও, দেশটি প্রথমবারের মতো এককভাবে ক্রিকেট প্রতিযোগিতাটি পরিচালনা করবে।
এর আগে ১৯৮৭ সালে পাকিস্তানের সাথে, ১৯৯৬ সালে পাকিস্তান ও শ্রীলঙ্কা এবং ২০১১ সালে শ্রীলঙ্কা ও বাংলাদেশের সাথে যৌথভাবে বিশ্বকাপ প্রতিযোগিতার আয়োজন করেছিল ভারত।
ত্রয়োদশ আসরটির ২০১৯ ইংল্যান্ড বিশ্বকাপের মতোই হবে; খেলবে ১০টি দল। ৯ ফেব্রুয়ারি, ২০২৩ থেকে শুরু হবে বিশ্বকাপ। ফাইনাল হবে ২৬ মার্চ, ২০২৩।
আইসিসি র্যাঙ্কিংয়ে প্রথম সাতটি দল এবং আয়োজক ভারত সরাসরি বিশ্বকাপের মূলপর্বে খেলার ছাড়পত্র পাবে। বাকি দুটি দল হলো ২০২৩ সালে ক্রিকেট ওয়ার্ল্ড কাপ কোয়ালিফায়ারের দুই ফাইনালিস্ট।
দ্বাদশ আসরের মতো ২০২৩ বিশ্বকাপে ১০টি দল খেললেও এই দলগুলো বেছে নেয়া হবে নতুন এক পদ্ধতিতে। এতদিন র্যাঙ্কিংয়ে শীর্ষ আট দলের সঙ্গে বাছাইপর্ব পেরিয়ে আসা দুটি দল সুযোগ পেত বিশ্বকাপে। কিন্তু নতুন নিয়মে র্যাঙ্কিংয়ের সরাসরি কোনো ভূমিকা থাকবে না।
তিন ধাপে ছয়টি প্রতিযোগিতার মাধ্যমে মোট ৩২ দল থেকে বেছে নেয়া হবে ১০টি দল। ২০১৯ সালের জুলাই থেকে ২০২২ সালের মে মাস পর্যন্ত চলছে ৩৭২ ম্যাচের এই ম্যারাথন বাছাইপর্ব। ৩২ দলের মধ্যে ১৩টি দল অংশ নেবে বিভিন্ন দ্বিপাক্ষিক সিরিজে।
