A repeat broadcast of "News 13 Tonight" on NBC affiliate WNYT (channel 13) in Albany, New York. Just before signing off for the night, WNYT would re-air the late news for those who weren't home to watch at 11pm.
WNYT's weekend news team in the late 80s was Joe Moskowitz, meteorologist Norm Sebastian, and Rodger Wyland with sports. Reporting is Bob Jamison of NBC News, as well as WNYT's Phil Bayly. Joe and Norm are sadly no longer with us, and Rodger just celebrated 40 years at WNYT this month. Phil was also hired at WNYT a few months before Rodger, and both came from the same station (WTAJ in Altoona, PA).
The top story is on the waning weeks of Election 1988, with Michael Dukakis and George H.W. Bush campaigning. Dukakis' campaign was criticized as "not getting its message across," while the candidate visits a birthday celebration for Jesse Jackson as well as a Vietnam memorial. Bush tours California via bus while future VP Dan Quayle tours Wisconsin chastising Dukakis as "Tax Hike Mike." Locally we get a story on construction for the Albany Civic Center eventually opening up the next year as "Knickerbocker Arena," as well as elections in Schenectady.
I deleted a May 1988 WNYT newscast with the same weekend talent bump, since this one also had commercials. Joe Moskowitz and Norm Sebastian were eventually replaced with Randy Salerno and Arnie Rosen the next year, as Joe left WNYT and Norm moved to an expanded morning newscast.
The news theme is "We Know What Matters" by The Coast Productions, and Ed Hopkins voices the news open. Because this is a repeat broadcast, there is no teaser for the newscast at the beginning.
