Preview for Dallas Cowboys @ Las Vegas Raiders
The woeful Las Vegas Raiders offense is hoping to fire tonight against the Dallas Cowboys.
Last week’s 10-7 loss to the Denver Broncos was the fourth time this season they have been held to single figures and they have not scored more than 30 points in 29 games – the longest active streak in the NFL.
“What’s my level of concern? That we’re not scoring enough points,” coach Pete Carroll said. “That’s about as obvious as you can get. … There are a lot of factors here.”
Offensive coordinator Chip Kelly is a man under the microscope and he is hoping the Raiders can tailor their strategy around star tight end Brock Bowers.
“We have to get him involved,” Kelly admitted. “He’s obviously our number one threat out there, and we’ve got to continue to get him involved in terms of what we do. Jacksonville and New England were a good example. We didn’t do a good job, I didn’t do a good job in the Denver game.”
Running back Ashton Jeanty insists the Raiders are not doing much wrong but accepts they need to nail the specifics.
“The details are everything,” said Jeanty. “And you may not think it’s the play where you messed up, but more times than not, it is that play that can change the game in a bad way for you and your team. So every single detail, every single play matters.”
The Raiders are bottom of the AFC West with a 2-7 record.
They will hope to get a boost from playing the 3-5-1 Cowboys, who have conceded 277 points this season, the third most in the NFC.
It has been a hugely difficult couple of weeks for the Cowboys following the death of defensive end Marshawn Kneeland.
Kneeland died after an apparent suicide, just two days after he scored the first touchdown of his career in the defeat to the Arizona Cardinals in the Cowboys’ last game.
Quarterback Dak Prescott says the team held a video call while on their a bye to try to digest the news.
Prescott said: “I hurt for Marshawn, I hurt for his family, I hurt for his girlfriend, I hurt for every single one of my teammates.
“This is a pain that you don’t wish upon anybody. You wish none of us had to go through this. You wish Marshawn didn’t have to go through what he went through.
“Tough moment for this team. I feel and hurt for everybody that’s involved in this and Marshawn’s family and loved ones.”
Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said: “We understand our best way to honor Marshawn on the field is how we play. That’s something we get to control, and I think the guys are excited about that.”
