Match Preview for Lyon v PSG

Paris Saint-Germain will be hoping to make Tuesday’s disappointing defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League a distant memory when they return to league action against Lyon.

Lyon themselves suffered disappointment in Europe after losing to Real Betis but can put themselves among the sides in the mix to end PSG’s dominance in Ligue 1in what is a tightly-packed table as it stands.

Luis Enrique’s men remain top of the table on 24 points but are just two points ahead of both Marseille and Lens, with Lyon among a trio who are on 20 points alongside Lille and Monaco.

PSG stayed top of Ligue 1 with a dramatic 1-0 win over Nice last weekend, sealed by Goncalo Ramos deep into stoppage time. The result extended their unbeaten league run to six matches and kept them narrowly ahead in the title race.

They also hold the best away record in the division with 11 points on the road, though their only defeat so far came away to Marseille. They’ll look to keep that momentum going in Lyon before the international break.

Paulo Fonseca’s men have been strong at the Groupama Stadium this season, winning six of seven matches in all competitions and scoring in every home game so far.

Their recent away form has been poor, however, with no wins in three matches – including a 2-0 Europa League defeat to Real Betis. Lyon have also failed to score in their last two outings but have found the net in their previous six meetings with PSG.

Even so, five of those clashes ended in defeat for Lyon, and PSG haven’t lost away to them since 2019. The hosts will hope their home form can turn that tide, while PSG aim to stay clear at the top in what should be another lively contest.

Team news for Lyon v PSG

PSG suffered a major setback in their clash with Bayern, losing both Ousmane Dembele and Achraf Hakimi to first-half injuries. Dembele picked up a calf problem, while Hakimi sustained an ankle sprain from a heavy challenge, ruling both out for several weeks.

They join Desire Doue (hamstring) and Nuno Mendes (knee) on the sidelines, leaving Luis Enrique without a third of his first-choice lineup during a busy run of games. However, defender Illia Zabarnyi returns from a Champions League suspension and is available for selection.

Lyon also face selection headaches due to recent disciplinary issues, with Abner and Hans Hateboer both suspended after red cards in their last two league outings. Ainsley Maitland-Niles is set to cover at right-back, while Nicolas Tagliafico will anchor the opposite flank.

In attack, Lyon are without Ernest Nuamah (ACL) and Malick Fofana (ankle), while midfielder Orel Mangala remains sidelined until December with a knee injury – further limiting Paulo Fonseca’s options for Sunday’s clash.
